The web stream of the Conference on “Future of the E-Justice in the EU and the new technologies in service of the judiciary” will be available on 14 May, as of 14:00 (GMT +3).

Are you interested to learn what the future of e-Justice in Europe holds? Should we invest in interconnecting Europe's multitude of databases, a tool to give you the ability to check online the standing of a person claiming to be a lawyer or the ability to pay from a Tallinn café that pesky traffic fine that you incurred last year in Spain? Or, perhaps we should look into the blockchain's potential uses to secure legal document exchanges? Watch the debate on what EU and national policy makers and experts think we should focus on in the next 5 years to make digital cross-border justice easier, faster and closer to Europe's citizens.

Can Artificial Intelligence replace judges, lawyers and court staff? HAL 9000 would probably say 'yes', but we are still on the fence. Yet, the same technology which today drives cars, translates in real time and excels at chess can help legal practitioners by doing legal research, offering an opinion, or calculating the best defence strategy in a criminal case. Watch the presentation on some of the potential many future uses of AI in the justice field.

In case e-CODEX sounds like yet another enigmatic abbreviation, you may be interested to learn how the backbone of secure cross-border communication between Member States' courts helps to make justice part of the Digital Single Market for a connected Europe. Is it time for e-CODEX to graduate from a pilot to the de facto e-Justice digital infrastructure, and who is best placed to take it forward? Find out by watching the debate.
