    This article focuses on commercial contracts and unfair commercial practices of catalogue companies.

    It describes the activities of damaged parties with respect to protection against the practices of catalogue companies in Slovakia as well as abroad.

    The author analyses the Slovak legal acts governing consumer protection and unfair commercial practices, mainly the provisions of Act No. 40/1964 Coll. Civil Code, as amended, Act No. 513/1991 Coll. Commercial Code, as amended and Act No. 634/1992 Coll. on consumer protection (currently Act No. 250/2007 Coll. on consumer protection, as amended).

    The article also inspects the EU legal framework with respect to consumer protection, mainly the Directive 2005/29/EC (in particular Article 6 et seq., Annex No. 1 are implemented in Act No. 250/2007 Coll., Section 8), the legal framework on consumer protection in other Member states (e.g. Austria and Switzerland) as well as German case law.
