  • Headnote
This article discusses the new additional procedural powers of the Italian Competition Authority (Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato) in unfair commercial practice proceedings. The author explains that, pursuant to article 27 of the Italian Consumer Code and Regulation no 17589 of 15 November 2007, the Italian Competition Authority is now also competent to investigate and fine traders up to 500.000 EUR for unfair commercial practices. Moreover, like in competition law cases, during the investigation for unfair commercial practices, the Italian Competition Authority can also be supported by the Italian Tax Police (which is also entitled to exercise very intrusive powers).
